Unsafe external links checker
Unsafe external links checker flags off-site links without noopener or noreferrer in fetched HTML. Inspect the list and review each link in its browser context.
Unsafe external links checker: what this tool checks
Unsafe external links checker reviews anchors pointing to a different hostname and flags those whose rel attribute contains neither noopener nor noreferrer. The resulting list helps developers locate links for an attribute review after importing content or changing the way a template opens external destinations.
How to use it
- Enter the page URL and submit the check.
- Review each listed external address and its associated anchor text.
- Inspect the original anchor, its target behavior, and your browser support requirements before deciding whether an attribute change is needed.
Understanding your results
The implementation compares hostnames and inspects rel text. It does not limit the list to links that open a new tab. Consequently, a flagged ordinary link is not proof of a vulnerability. The checker also does not assess the safety or reputation of the destination website.
Frequently asked questions
Does the report prove that a destination is malicious?
No. The warning concerns link attributes only. A reputable destination can appear in the list, while a link with the recognized attribute can still point somewhere undesirable.
Why are links to my own subdomain listed?
The comparison uses the submitted hostname. A different subdomain may therefore count as external even when your organization operates both sites. Review those relationships before classifying the result.
